Kutcher recently revealed on social media that he was diagnosed with a rare form of psoriasis called hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). He shared his story in hopes of helping others who suffer from autoimmune illnesses feel less alone on their journey. The diagnosisonly adds to why Kutcher isn’t seen at many Hollywood events.
“There are times when I’m dealing with flares and don’t want to be seen in public,” Kutcher said in a recent interview.

“I can’t hear very well, I’m hard of hearing in one ear and I can only hear in the other,” he explained to Ria and Fran, who host the podcast. “I don’t know who’s yelling my name but I know there’s a lot of people yelling, ‘Reese! Ashton! Over here! Look this way!’ And at a certain point you’re like, ‘God, this is really something. Look at the camera? Got it. Are we done? Awesome.'”

Kutcher, who is best known for his roles in “That ’70s Show” and “Two and a Half Men,” recently came forward to show the world he has been living with vasculitis, an illness that affects the blood vessels.
This diagnosis has caused inflammation and narrowing of blood vessels, which resulted in his hearing loss. The actor’s condition was first diagnosed while he was working on a movie set. After hearing tests revealed something wasn’t right, further testing showed that it was due to vasculitis.
Kutcher has opened up about this health issue in an attempt to raise awareness of the autoimmune disorders that affect so many people worldwide. He hopes by speaking out more people will learn about these conditions and get tested if they experience any symptoms like he did.
“I woke up one day and was having vision issues, could hardly see. Knocked out my hearing, which threw off my equilibrium, my balance, and I couldn’t walk. I had vasculitis that you’re very well aware of,” Kutcher revealed during a Dec. 2022 interview with ET.
After being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease in 2019, his physician, Dr. Agus, noted that he has made “impressive” progress.
“It was life-threatening. I mean, literally, it was life-threatening,” Dr. Agus told the outlet before revealing that it got so bad that Kunis called him one day saying, “Ashton is just… he’s not saying things that make sense.”
“So going from a life-threatening illness with aggressive treatment, he pulled out of and now he’s back to his entirely normal self and it really is amazing to watch. He didn’t want to hide it and he wanted to be an inspiration for others and that’s just who he is,” the doctor said.
